Music Programme 2010

Applications are now invited from artists wishing to perform at the 2010 festival, on Sat 10 July. The application procedure is desribed on the Artists' Page.


Line-Up 2009

The format in 2009 was the same as in previous years, with two stages, a "main" stage in the field and an "acoustic" stage in the beer tent.

West Malvern Primary School

Children from St James' school will open the festival with two dances, "Rock Around the Clock" by Class 3 and "Traditional Country Dances" by older children.

West Malvern Irish Dancers

The local group of the Sean Eireann McMahon Academy of Irish Dancing. Supported by grant aid from West Fest, they have traveled to numerous championships, gaining several titles for their team: 2008 World Champions, 2008 Great Britain Champions, 2008 Midlands Champions and 2009 All Ireland Champions.

The Jenny Hallam Trio

Jenny Hallam is a local singer-songwriter playing a collection of catchy pop songs with her three-piece band — "tinkling ivories and vocals to match".

Zen Archeray

A five piece organic folk rock-band playing contemporary, original material. They released their first album, "Love Knows No Boundaries" in May 2005 to much acclaim and are due now to begin recording their long awaited second album.

Unkle Monty

Unkle Monty formed in March 2007. Performing a tight blend of rock and indie anthemic, rock-solid tracks. They say: "We're totally digging our music, fans, gigs, the rock 'n' roll life".

BabaJack

BabaJack have an energetic and original take on blues. Described as a musical partnership with a hard work ethic, passion, energy and damn good musicianship.They bring all their influences to their songs, but they are true to their first love — the blues.

Tilted Smile

Solid rock from the winners of the 2006 Jack Daniel's National Battle of the Bands, their prize being a trip to Tennessee, USA to record in the legendary Sun Studio.

Malthouse Passage

Malthouse Passage borrowed their name from a street sign featured in Eric Sykes classic 1967 short comedy film The Plank. They draw upon a vast range of influences for their sets from the folk tradition and contemporary sources.

The Pewke Band

The Pewke Band formed in 1972, and were reformed in 2005 by original band members Alan Hoida and Paul White. The band has its own unique, good-time take on classic rock and blues numbers from the late sixties to mid-seventies. Band motto: "We've suffered for our music, now it's your turn".

The Roving Crows

The Roving Crows mix of instruments and the integration of traditional with modern sounds make for a funky and upbeat experience, with roots in traditional Irish music and influences ranging from country to rock and blues.

The Cohen Brothers

The Cohen Brothers are a 5-piece band from the West Midlands. They write and perform a mix of original material, and their own take on classic songs, all fuelled by a mutual love of 70's west coast LA music.

Flatworld

A lively five-piece band with magnificent tunes and kicking rhythm. Their roots 'n' grooves from Eastern Europe and beyond are described by BBC Radio Shropshire's Genevieve Tudor as "like Ukrainians meet klezmer". In the morning you'll be sober but Flatworld's tunes will still be in your head.

Rhondda

Rhondda were chosen by Severn Sound & Wyvern FM Radio as one of the most talented up and coming bands in the Midlands. Playing original songs and covers, if you like The Beatles, Crowded House, Squeeze, Radiohead then this is the band for you.

Treefrogs

Treefrogs are a Ledbury-based four-piece group playing a variety of music, both self-penned and covers. Their most recent CD, "That's how it is (at the moment)", has proved to be immensely popular.

Mamma M

An exciting new soul band that takes its name from lead singer Marilyn Middleton. Originally from Chicago, Marilyn enjoyed a successful career touring her native United States with rock, soul and folk bands before migrating to Britain a few years ago. She is joined by an all-Malvern line up of established performers.

Matt Woosey

With a powerful vocal and original guitar style, Matt has spent the year travelling the length and breadth of the country playing anywhere from peoples living rooms and barges, to nationally acclaimed festivals and touring music venues. This will be his 127th gig this year and he says that this is one of the gigs he been looking forward to the most.

Hagglebag

Formed in 2003 in Worcester, Hagglebag have been gigging both locally and as far away as Denmark and Sweden ever since. The music is predominately Irish and includes reels, jigs, and polkas collected from all corners of Britain, Ireland, Europe, Newfoundland and the USA — and even some Jamaican dub!
